Rome, NY — On Saturday and Sunday, November 8 and 9, 2008, Fort Stanwix National Monument will host an 18th century living history encampment. Reenactors from throughout New York State, as well as men and women from other states and Canada, will demonstrate what life was like at the fort when it was an active military post. In addition to the events inside the fort, the Oneida Indian Nation will provide special programs at the Marinus Willett Center throughout the day on Saturday, November 8th. These programs will be provided by the Nation’s First Allies Living History Department and Archeologist. Come out, explore and enjoy two days of fun and education at Fort Stanwix. These programs are for people of all ages; children and adults, individuals and families.

The event will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 8th and last until 4:00 p.m. The presentations at the Marinus Willett Center by the Oneida Indian Nation will be held at 10:00 a.m. (Artifact Discussion), 11:00 a.m. (Story Telling), 1:00 p.m. (Scouting) and 2:00 p.m. (Artifact Discussion). On Sunday, November 9th the event will begin at 10:00 a.m. and end at 3:00 p.m. All visitors should start their encampment experience at the Marinus Willett Center to receive an event schedule.

“We are very excited that visitors look forward to this event every year, it is fun for everyone,” says Bill Sawyer, Park Ranger. “About 100 reenactors participate in this event each year making it the largest encampment every year for Fort Stanwix. We are looking to repeat this great experience for everyone who visits this Saturday and Sunday.” Come and discover living history!
