The Siege of Fort Stanwix Begins: Wednesday, August 3rd

Fort Stanwix National Monument will honor the first day of the siege of 1777 with activities scheduled throughout the day. From August 3 to 23, 1777, British forces under command of General Barry St. Leger laid siege to Fort Stanwix, commanded by Colonel Peter Gansevoort. All activities last no more than 30 minutes and happen inside the fort unless otherwise noted.

10 a.m. Children's Program: What flag would you fly? Many different flags have flown over Fort Stanwix. Come join the fun and create your own flag!

10:30 a.m. The Siege Begins: Take a walk with a park ranger from the Willett Center to the fort for a look at the choices made on August 3rd, 1777, that changed history.

11a.m. Defending the Frontier: Learn how the soldiers of Fort Stanwix answered the British demand of "Surrender or die!" in this historic weapons program and flag ceremony.

1 p.m. Children's Program: What flag would you fly? Many different flags have flown over Fort Stanwix. Come join the fun and create your own flag!

4:15 p.m. Retreat: Experience the end of the first day of Siege at Fort Stanwix.

Fort Stanwix National Monument is open seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission to the park is free. Activities are ongoing unless noted.
