On Sunday, July 3, Steuben Memorial State Historic Site will host a pre-Independence Day family fun day. From 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. participants are invited to bring a picnic lunch and enjoy the view as they celebrate our nation's birthday like Baron von Steuben had envisioned over 200 years ago with his own Independence Day picnic. Staff will be available to provide instruction for various toys and games from the 1700s, and participants are encouraged to bring any traditional picnic games from home, too.

For those wishing to cook onsite, there are several grills available, or you may bring one from home. There are also a limited number of picnic tables and benches onsite, so visitors are encouraged to bring tables and chairs or a blanket to ensure they have a comfortable space to eat. Steuben Memorial is a pack-in, pack out site, so please make sure you bring a bag for any trash.

Steuben Memorial State Historic Site is located between Starr Hill Road and NY Route 12 in Remsen, NY. The grounds are open 10 a.m. to dusk, 7 days a week. Through a partnership between the National Park Service and the New York State Office Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation, national park rangers provide special programs at the memorial. For more information about upcoming events, please call Fort Stanwix National Monument at (315) 338-7730 or visit the Fort Stanwix web page at www.nps.gov/fost.
