Rome, NY: If you’ve always wanted to know more about America’s national parks but don’t have the time to tour the U.S., Fort Stanwix can help you out!

As part of National Park Week April 17th-24th, Fort Stanwix National Monument will be showing Ken Burns’ six part film “The National Parks-America’s Best Idea” (www.nps.gov/americasbestidea/) in the park’s Gregg Barracks Visitor Contact Station inside the reconstructed fort. The films will show from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. each day. Visitors are invited to bring a bag lunch and have a “picnic” in some of the close to 400 national parks in the U.S. today. The dates and episodes are as follows:

 Sunday, April 17th

Sunday, April 17th - “The Scripture of Nature” (1851-1890)

Monday, April 18th  “The Last Refuge” (1890-1915)
Tuesday, April 19th  “The Empire of Grandeur” (1915-1919)
Wednesday, April 20th  “Going Home” (1920-1933)
Thursday, April 21st  “Great Nature” (1933-1945)
Friday, April, 22nd  “The Morning of Creation” (1946-1980)
Saturday, April 23rd  Sunday, April 17th - “The Scripture of Nature” (1851-1890)
Sunday, April 24th  “The Last Refuge” (1890-1915)


National Park Week, April 16-24, will focus on Healthy Parks, Healthy People and highlight the many ways that national parks contribute to the overall well-being of people and the planet. After lunch and the movie, visitor are also encouraged to take in some fresh air by walking the path around the reconstructed fort, reading the wayside signs, and learning a little about what went on outside the walls of the fort during the American Revolution. Our popular “Junior Ranger” program booklet will be available as well to encourage young folks to visit the fort and learn the stories it has to tell.

Fort Stanwix National Monument is open seven days a week from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Admission to the park is free. Activities are ongoing unless noted.
