Archeology is tons of dirt-digging, story-telling, mystery-solving fun! Get started on your archeological adventure by joining the Fort Stanwix Backyard Rangers on Saturday, July 20th, from 10 to 11:30 am and 1:30 to 3 pm as we dig into archeology! Children will experience the excitement of exploration on a mock dig and work along with a ranger to decipher the story behind the discoveries.

Nearly 500,000 artifacts have been discovered at the park since the early 1970s. Learn how the science of archeology was able to tell us the story of life at the fort in the 18th century, see the fireplace unearthed during the digs, and join a park ranger to learn about the artifacts on display in the Willett Center.

You can join the Backyard Rangers every third Saturday of the month, there is no cost, and no reservations are necessary. The next Backyard Rangers will meet on August 17, 2013. For more information about this and other programs, please call 315-338-7730 and ask to speak to a ranger.

Fort Stanwix National Monument is open seven days a week from 9 am to 5 pm. Admission to the park is free. Activities are ongoing unless noted. For more information about upcoming events please call the park at (315) 338-7730. Please visit the park's web page at www.nps.gov/fost for additional information about the park and up-to-date news about park events.
