18th Century balladeer Linda Russell playing music for a small audience
Rome, NY: If you've ever wondered what musical entertainment was like before the days of stereos, CD's and I-Pods, Fort Stanwix has the answer. On the evening of Saturday, May 29, balladeer Linda Russell will be at Fort Stanwix National Monument to perform a concert of 18th Century Music.

This music would have been the tunes on the "Pop Charts" of the 1700's and will encompass themes that are still popular subjects of current music including war, social injustice, and love and having fun. In addition to singing, Ms Russell will perform using reproductions of many popular 18th century instruments. Reflecting an era when everyone loved to sing, the public will be invited to join in on many of the tunes.

The gates of the fort will open at 6 p.m. and the concert will begin at 7 p.m. on the fort's parade ground. The park has limited seating available, so visitors are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs. In the event of rain, the concert will take place in the fort's Gregg Barracks visitor contact building. This program offers enjoyment for people of all ages and is a wonderful opportunity for families to spend an evening of music and fun together.

Fort Stanwix National Monument is open seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission to the park is free. Activities are ongoing unless noted. For more information about upcoming events please call the park at (315) 338-7730. Please also visit the park's web page at www.nps.gov/fost for additional information about the park and up-to-date news about park events.
