First Fort Compilation

Belle Point

Due to recent lightning activity in our area, our equipment at Belle Point is temporarily out of commission. We are working to resolve this issue as expeditiously as possible. Thank you for your patience.

Our first camera is located on a gazebo immediately to the south of the First Fort foundations. The camera rotates to view four scenes.

One special feature of the camera at Belle Point is that the original design as a security camera has been converted to serve as a webcam as well. The capture is updated every 30 seconds.

Our second webcam is located on the second floor of the Commissary building (the oldest standing building in Ft. Smith) and looks out onto the Parade Grounds.

Did You Know?
The U.S. Army selected a spot overlooking the confluence of the Arkansas and Poteau Rivers for the site of a fort. Soldiers from the Rifle Regiment arrived in 1817 and named the site Fort Smith after their commanding officer, Thomas A. Smith.
