Acting Superintendent Darrell Echols announced today the National Park Service is accepting public review and comments for sixty days through June 4, 2013 on the draft General Management Plan (GMP) for Fort Raleigh National Historic Site (FORA). The development of a GMP for Fort Raleigh will lay a foundation for the long term direction of the National Historic Site.A GMP provides a vision for the future of a park and a practical framework for decision making.It represents the broadest level of planning conducted by the National Park Service and the intention is to provide guidance for making informed decisions about the future of the park, specific resource conditions and visitor experiences.Public involvement is a key component in the preparation of the GMP. A public meeting for the draft Fort Raleigh National Historic Site General Management Plan will be held on April 30, 2013, from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.The meeting will be an informal open house format in which attendees have an opportunity to learn about the plan and discuss it with park staff and members of the planning team.The meeting will be held at the National Wildlife Refuges Visitor Center, 100 Conservation Way, Manteo, NC27954.
