National Park Week Photo Contest at Fort Pulaski

Savannah, GA - The National Park Service and the National Park Foundation, the official charity of America's national parks, invite people everywhere to enjoy, explore, learn, share, and give back to America's nearly 400 national parks during National Park Week 2012.

Celebrating the theme, "Picture Yourself in a National Park," National Park Week will run from Saturday, April 21 through Sunday, April 29. Throughout the country, visitors can enjoy the beauty and wonder of 84 million acres of the world's most spectacular scenery, historic places and cultural treasures for FREE!

Fort Pulaski National Monument - Savannah's National Park - invites all park visitors to celebrate National Park Week by submitting photos to the park's Facebook page. The park is hosting an online photo contest in support of this year's National Park Week's theme, "Picture Yourself in a National Park".

In order to submit a photo, contestants must "like" the park's Facebook page. From Saturday, April 21 through Sunday, April 29, photos that match this year's National Park week theme can be submitted. All photos should highlight the best natural and cultural features of Fort Pulaski National Monument and show the photographer and/or family and friends in the park. The book "America's National Parks Civil War Handbook" and a special T-shirt commemorating the 150th Battle of Fort Pulaski will be awarded to the one photograph chosen by park staff as best representing the spirit of the theme.

Other photos may be chosen to be featured on the park's Facebook page, and photos taken at Fort Pulaski National Monument may be selected as the top photo on the park's Facebook page. The winner will be announced on Facebook, Saturday, May 5. Photographs deemed inappropriate for any reason will be removed from the page, and judge's decisions will be final.

"America's national parks have something for everyone," said National Park Service Director Jonathan B. Jarvis. "Take a break and experience something new, enjoy some fresh air, get some exercise, and see where history happened. And, since admission is free to all 397 parks, all week long, National Park Week is a great time to get up, get out, and explore a park."
"This is our annual celebration of America's best idea - our national parks," said Neil Mulholland, President and CEO of the National Park Foundation. "We are proud to stand with our partners at the National Park Service and encourage people everywhere to enjoy, learn from and support our nation's greatest treasures."
Fort Pulaski National Monument is located on U.S. Highway 80, 15 miles east of Savannah.
