Fees waived for Veterans and Members of U.S. Armed Forces To honor their service to our country, U.S. veterans, members of the U.S. armed forces and their families will be admitted free-of-charge on Veterans Day (Nov. 11), to most public lands managed by the Department of the Interior and the Department of Agriculture. more...

When James Sampey, the tavern keeper at the Mount Washington Tavern, died he had eight children ranging from an infant to a 24 year old. His wife, Rebecca, took over the operation of the tavern. Thomas Searight noted that “in many instances widows kept the best taverns along” the National Road.
