FARMINGTON - The Friends of Fort Necessity will present the Legends of Fort Necessity on Saturday evening, October 15, 2011. This special program is the October installment of the Friends of Fort Necessity Lecture Series and will highlight the history of the Braddock's 1755 campaign to the Forks of the Ohio.

The Legends of Fort Necessity tours will begin at the Fort Necessity/National Road Interpretive and Education Center at 7:00 and 8:30. Participants will assume the role of recruits to Braddock's army arriving for the campaign. On their way in to camp, these "recruits" will hear stories from veterans of Braddock's campaign, including British Officers, camp follower Charlotte Browne, an army surgeon, wagoner, the Half King, and British soldiers. "Recruits" will hike over one half mile during the course of the program, including some unpaved trails. Visitors should wear sturdy shoes and may wish to bring a flashlight.

Space on each tour is limited. Advance reservations are required and will be accepted on first call, first served basis. For more information and reservations, call 724-329-5805 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Plan to arrive 30 minutes prior to your scheduled tour to confirm your reservation. There is no fee for the program; however The Friends of Fort Necessity suggests a donation to help support the program. Donations will be accepted at the information desk on the night of the program.
