FARMINGTON – The Friends of Fort Necessity will present the Legends of Fort Necessity on Saturday, October 16, 2010 at 6:00, 7:00, and 8:00 p.m. Stories of Fort Necessity and the Braddock campaigns, passed down through local tradition, will be retold. This program will be the October installment of the Friends of Fort Necessity Lecture Series. 

          The Legends of Fort Necessity tour will begin at the Fort Necessity/National Road Interpretive and Education Center.   The Friends of Fort Necessity will provide refreshments and information about their group. Volunteers will guide each group into the meadow to hear the archaeological legends of Fort Necessity and stories related Braddock's gold, Braddock's burial, and the Whiskey Rebellion.  Participants will have the option of visiting the Braddock's road trace after hearing the stories.    

     Space on each tour is limited. Advance reservations are required and will be accepted on first call, first served basis. A fee of $2 will be collected the evening of the event. Plan to arrive 30 minutes prior to your scheduled tour to confirm your reservation purchase your ticket. For more information and reservations, call 724-329-5805 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.

          The Friends of Fort Necessity was formed in 2009. The new group is dedicated to working with the National Park Service to the preserve the history of the Fort Necessity. Activities include fund raising, volunteering, or other ways to support Fort Necessity National Battlefield and memorialize its role in the development of the United States.
