Volunteer Opportunities for IndividualsHistory/ Interpretation Training and research materials are provided to volunteers to develop a variety of interpretive talks and programs relating to Fort Necessity’s primary themes of young George Washington; the French and Indian War; the colonial American period; the French, British and American Indian participants; the Mount Washington Tavern and the National Road. Education Aid Work with the education specialist on curriculum development, setting up conferences, tourism promotion, conducting curriculum-based education programs for all grade levels and distance learning programs. Technological Aid Work with park staff and public information officer on press releases, social media, website development, podcast development, videotaping, photography and other projects as needed. Library Aid Assist the librarian on a variety of projects including preparing new books to be processed into the collection, library inventory, re-shelving books and magazines and check for overdue items. Click here to apply for this positon. Administrative Aid Work in the office providing clerical assistance. This would include typing, filing, copying, computer data entry and working on projects as assigned. Click here to apply for this positon. Resource Management Aid Work with the resource management specialist on a variety of projects including monitoring and data collection for water quality, wildlife and fisheries population and habitat management, vegetation and pest management, and human impact assessment. Click here to apply for this positon. Curatorial Aid Assist curatorial specialist with preservation of the museum collections. Projects could include photographing museum objects, measuring museum artifacts, recording information on computer, properly storing collection, inventory, cataloging new additions to the collection, and collection and exhibit maintenance. Other projects could include assisting maintenance in trail rehabilitation, grounds mowing/grooming, carpentry, plumbing, electrical, historic preservation and other related tasks. Voulnteer Opportunities for GroupsGroups of people are welcome to volunteer at Fort Necessity. It is best to contact the volunteer coordinator with the type of group, age of the participants, the number in the group and the expected date of arrival. Together you can work out an appropriate volunteer opportunity. Groups who have volunteered in the past include reenactment or living history groups, scout groups, college groups and fraternities/sororities, local businesses, corporations and community groups.
