Be sure to start your visit at the Visitor Center, located within the 1884 Post Commissary Building. Follow the paved path from the parking lot and monument directly to the Visitor Center.

The National Park Service preserves the surviving features of the military period of Fort Laramie. Remains of 21 historic buildings may be viewed. Some of the restored original structures date to 1849.
