Fort Laramie Digital Preservation

In the fall of 2009, CyArk, the National Park Service, and University of Colorado Denver - Center of Preservation Research collaborated to Digitally Preserve Fort Laramie National Historic Site. The first phase of the Digital Preservation project at Fort Laramie included field documentation, during which laser scanning and photography were used to produce a digital record of Fort Laramie.

The digital information gathered during the field documentation phase was then used to create media for preservation of the site, education, and virtual tourism. All of the media created is showcased on CyArk's website and will be used at Fort Laramie for the continued preservation of the site as well as interactive learning tools for visitors.

The region is semi-arid with a very distinct winter dry season.  About 70% of the normal annual precipitation falls during the spring and early summer.

Winters are cold and breezy with sub-zero days not being uncommon.
