This upcoming program will highlight local resident Sophia Porson’s connections to President Eisenhower through President Clinton during her career with the State Department. This first program of a series will occur on Tuesday, September 29, 2009 at 5:30 pm within the visitor center auditorium at Fort Frederica National Monument.

Summer Hours Expand at Fort Frederica National Monument
Starting Sunday, July 5th, the new hours of operation will extend an extra hour from 9 am until 6 pm from Sunday through Friday. On Saturdays the hours of operation will be from 9 am until 9 pm. Saturday evenings at 8:15 program, the ranger staff will present programs entitled “Sunset on the Fort” that will focus on the period of Frederica’s ‘sunset’ years.

The park is looking for a few dedicated volunteers to portray soldiers of Alexander Heron’s Company of the 42nd Regiment – the British redcoats who served on St. Simons Island from 1738-1749. "Sunset on the Fort": Saturday Nights July 12th to August 9th
Beginning on Saturday, July 12th, the park will remain open until sunset on Saturdays through August 9th. The ranger program will begin at 8:15 pm. A program entitled “Sunset on the Fort” will allow visitors a chance to see the golden sun set upon the marshes at the fort and learn about the site’s history. In particular, the programs will focus on the declining years of Frederica, following the battles between the British and Spanish for control of the region.

The park staff at Fort Frederica National Monument is now accepting reservations for the 2008 Hands-On-History Camp. National Junior Ranger Day Saturday, April 26th
On Saturday, April 26, 2008 the National Park Service will hold its second National Junior Ranger Day. As part of this special day Fort Frederica National Monument will showcase its award winning Junior Ranger Adventure Book. Chosen by the Southeast Region as the winner of the “Keeper of the Light” Award, this book is unlike any other junior ranger book in the National Park System.

Tuesday, July 10, 2007 through Wednesday, July 11 the Bloody Marsh unit of Fort Frederica National Monument, located off of Demere Road on St. Simons Island, will be closed for road surface maintenance. Bloody Marsh will re-open on Thursday, July 12.
