The National Park Service is pleased to announce an upcoming fee free day at national parks across the United States including Fort Frederica National Monument on St. Simons Island, GA. America’s 394 national parks offer family time, fresh air, and opportunities to learn about our great country. On Tuesday, June 21, park entrance fees will be waived for all who want to experience their national parks.

This is a way that the National Park Service can help out by making it easier to visit a National Park, to bring your family for a day of fun. We are inviting you to come by for a visit, to relax, to learn about this great nation…and to just have some fun.

“National park vacations are always memorable and affordable,” said National Park Service Director Jonathan Jarvis. “However, in these tough economic times, we added fee free days as a way to ensure everyone has the opportunity to visit a park. I encourage everyone to sample a new park or revisit an old favorite.” In addition to the fee free day in June, visitors will have the opportunity to visit their parks fee free on the following days:

September 24  National Public Lands Day
November 11-13  Veteran’s Day Weekend

According to Fort Frederica Superintendent Mary Beth Wester, “We are thrilled to offer a special fee free day on the first day of summer as a perfect time to come and experience the incredibly vibrant history of Fort Frederica and its role in our national history.” Fort Frederica offers special opportunities to learn about Georgia’s colonial past including an award-winning junior ranger program, hands-on programs and guided tours.

The park will be open from 9 am until 5 pm.
