Living History at Bloody Marsh, May 28th

Fort Frederica Superintendent Mary Beth Wester is pleased to announce the details of an upcoming living history program at the Battle of Bloody Marsh site on St. Simons Island.

On Saturday, May 28th, at 2:00 p.m., park staff and volunteers will present a program entitled “The Battle that Changed Sgt. Stewart Forever.” The program is set in 1743 and features a British soldier retelling his role in the Battle of Bloody Marsh and the effect the battle had upon the soldiers and settlers of Frederica. This 35-minute living history presentation also includes a musket firing demonstration presented by volunteers portraying soldiers of the 42nd Regiment.

According to Wester this program helps visitors connect to the people of the past. “These programs help personalize Frederica’s history and bring it to life so visitors can understand that the National Park Service preserves more than ruins and foundations at Fort Frederica. It is a special place because of the people who once called it home.”

The program takes place at the Battle of Bloody Marsh unit of the park located on Demere Road.

There is no admission fee for this program.
