Fort Frederica Superintendent Mary Beth Wester is pleased to announce that the park is now accepting reservations for the 2011 Hands-On-History Camp. The camp will be held from Wednesday, June 1 to Friday, June 3, 2011 from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm. It is limited to 20 participants. Please call the park visitor center at (912) 638-3639 to sign up for this educational and fun day camp. The camp is free and is open to children in fifth through seventh grades.

The theme of this year’s camp is How People Shape History. Through the use of primary sources, artifacts, crafts and games, participants will explore Fort Frederica and learn about why history is important. Hands-On-History campers will also participate in the park’s award winning junior ranger program. Throughout their experiences, they will also learn about the National Park Service and its important role in protecting our Nation’s treasures.

According to Wester, “Activities like the Hands-On-History Camp are great ways for children with an interest in history to delve into our past in an interactive way that helps make a lasting impression.”

Reservations are required.
