Today nineteen fort sites are administered by the National Park Service located on approximately 130 acres. There are 8 fort sites east of the Anacostia River in the District administered by National Capital Parks-East.
Each fortification was a link in this chain of forts surrounding the capital city during the Civil War. The forts below protected the capitol from southern sympathizing Marylanders.
