On Saturday, February 15, 1862, the Confederate leadership at Fort Donelson decided to launch an ambitious assault against the right flank of Ulysses S. Grant's line, with the intention of creating some escape routes for the Confederate garrison.
For many reasons, this assault remains one of the most fascinating, and most studied, from the battle and American Civil War.
Join NPS Volunteer James Vaughan, and historian and author Kendall Gott ("Where the South Lost the War") as we escort you to areas associated with this attack.
The program will begin at the park's visitor center and depart from there. You will follow the tour leaders in your own vehicles.
