Nathan Bedford Forrest was one of many Confederate colonels at Fort Donelson in February of 1862, and managed to escape with hundreds of others going into February 16, 1862.
He returned almost a year later, this time serving under General Joe Wheeler, and participated in a battle intended to retake the town of Dover, Tennessee, and control of the Cumberland River. The Battle of Dover, February 3, 1863, was unsuccessful for the Confederates.
Jack Hurst, author of a wonderful biography of Forrest, as well as "Men of Fire," about the rise of Forrest and Grant, and the book's new sequel "Born into Battle" will share his thoughts on the legacy of Forrest.
