Dover, Tennessee—The Fort Donelson National Battlefield Ranger staff is recruiting volunteers to participate in the 2008 Summer Historic Musket Firing Demonstrations. The Musket Firing programs are very popular at Civil War battlefield sites across the country. Fort DonelsonNB needs volunteer participants to create a new, expanded program.

The park will begin accepting applications on May 1 for five volunteer positions. Classes will be offered on May 17 or June 14. Learn how to fire a reproduction Civil War musket during this 8-hour training, and receive certification on completion of the course by Historical Weapons Trainer James Jobe.  Everyone will learn to safely load and fire a reproduction musket.

The training will include classroom and outdoor range instruction. Applicants must be 18 years or older. No application fees are required.  The park requests that each participant considering joining the volunteer program to conduct living history programs and black powder demonstrations during the summer season and for special events.

If interested, please contact Volunteer Coordinator, Deborah Austin at 931-232-5706 X 103.
