Visitor Center Hours Change on June 1, 2013
The visitor center will change to summer operation hours Saturday, June 1, and will be open from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm daily through August 31. The hiking trails, ruins areas, and other areas of the fort remain open to the public during daylight hours.

NPS PHOTO The bookstore within the Fort Bowie National Historic Site visitor center is operated by the Western National Parks Association (WNPA). WNPA was founded in 1938 to aid and promote the educational and scientific activities of the National Park Service. As a nonprofit organization authorized by Congress, they operate visitor center bookstores, produce publications, and support research and educational programs at more than 65 parks in 12 western states. Did You Know?
Heliographs are instruments which use a mirror and sunlight to transmit Morse Code. General Nelson Miles realized that southern Arizona’s mountainous terrain and huge amounts of sunlight would make the heliograph useful in his campaigns from Fort Bowie against Geronimo in 1886.
