Fire Restrictions in effect for Fort Bowie National Historic Site

Visitor Center Hours Change on June 1, 2013
The visitor center will change to summer operation hours Saturday, June 1, and will be open from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm daily through August 31. The hiking trails, ruins areas, and other areas of the fort remain open to the public during daylight hours.
Campgrounds

There are no camping facilities within the park. Motels, stores, trailer parks, and campgrounds can be found in the nearby towns of Wilcox and Bowie. Another campground is located at Chiricahua National Monument, 25 miles to the southwest. |
Did You Know?
Heliographs are instruments which use a mirror and sunlight to transmit Morse Code. General Nelson Miles realized that southern Arizona’s mountainous terrain and huge amounts of sunlight would make the heliograph useful in his campaigns from Fort Bowie against Geronimo in 1886.
