Flight 93 Plans for Seventh Anniversary

Commemoration of September 11th Underway

“Their Courage – Our Commitment”

Somerset, PA --The National Park Service, the Families of Flight 93 and the Flight 93 project partners warmly invite and encourage the public to attend the planned events to commemorate the seventh anniversary of September 11th. This year’s services are similar to last year, and the public is asked to keep this in mind as they make their plans; all are welcome.

September 10, 2008
The formal commemorative service will take place on Wednesday evening, September 10, 2008, in Somerset, Pennsylvania at the Somerset Alliance Church beginning at 7:00 PM. The theme for this year’s commemoration is Their Courage, Our Commitment. The Families of Flight 93 and the Flight 93 project partners wish to honor and pay tribute to the courage sustained on Flight 93 by the brave passengers and crew, while recognizing the continuing commitment the Families and partners have in building and supporting a fitting memorial.

Speakers will include Ms. Pamela Tokar-Ickes, Chair, Somerset County Commissioners; Mr. Jerry Spangler, Somerset County District Attorney; and Mr. Gordon Felt, President of the Families of Flight 93.

Musical selections will be performed by the Somerset County Community Band. The names of the passengers and crew will be read by members of the Families of Flight 93 as well as members of the wider community who assisted on and around September 11, 2001.

The commemoration is open to the public and is at the Somerset Alliance Church. The church can seat approximately 1,000 people, and seating is first come, first served. Light refreshments will follow the service. Directions can be found at www.somersetalliance.org.

A former Shanksville-Stonycreek student shares his story

Did You Know?
Flight 93 National Memorial has now collected oral histories from more than 500 people with direct connection to Flight 93. Until now, the voices of students who were in the Shanksville-Stonycreek School near the crash site that day, have been absent. View a video clip of an effort to change that.
