National Parks have been called one of "America's Greatest Ideas." This year the National Park Service celebrates National Park Week from April 16th to April 24th, 2011. During this time, entrance fees to all national park areas will be waived. Why not celebrate by visiting Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument? Families may be interested in a special day for kids called Junior Ranger Day which will be Saturday, April 23, 2011 from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Junior Ranger Day is a chance for children to earn badges and patches and become Junior Rangers and help out our national parks. Through a variety of hands-on activities children will learn about  fossils, wildlife, wildfire, and outdoor skills. Throughout the day, children complete fun, engaging games in their Junior Ranger books, go on hikes, see the park film and exhibits, and explore. There will also be a live, children's music concert at 1:00 PM with children's musician Ranger Jeff Wolin. While many activities are geared towards families, there are always plenty of activities to do for all visitors such as hiking, exhibits, the park film, and two short, self-guided nature trails. Questions? Call Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument for more details at (719) 748-3253.
