Temporary Visitor Center / Trail Closures
The park is operating with a temporary visitor as it builds a new one. The park is OPEN with normal hours. Please bring your own water. Pit toilets are available for bathrooms. The Sawmill and Hans loop will have period closures. All other trails open.
Florissant Fossil Beds Wins Online Contest

Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument would like to thank residents of the Pikes Peak region and the entire state for their support that led to the Monument winning a heated online voting contest. Florissant Fossil Beds will greatly benefit from the contest which was sponsored by the National Park Foundation through its partnership with Energizer. First, the Monument will receive a grant for $5,000 which it will use to help bring military youth to the Monument this summer and coming fall. Secondly, Energizer will also be providing the Monument with six solar panel units which it will use to help its education program. Finally, Energizer is sponsoring a volunteer day at the Monument on June 24th, 2011 from 9am - 12noon to help restore trails, level a picnic area, reset a footbridge, and stabilize a creek bank. Volunteers will also benefit as Energizer will be giving away tee shirts and all volunteers will have a chance to win a 60watt, portable solar panel.The volunteer day is open to the public and the staff at the Monument encourages local area residents to come out for the morning and help improve facilities at the park. If you are interested in helping out with the volunteer day, please contact Ranger Jeff Wolin at (719) 748‐3253. After the volunteer day, everyone is invited to bring a lunch to eat in the picnic area, and then enjoy ranger programs and hiking trails in the afternoon. In the visitor center, visitors can view the park film and exhibits. In preparation for the volunteer day,the Energizer Bunny Balloon will be coming to Colorado Springs on Thursday, June 23rd!!!! It Is scheduled to launch at 5:30 AM near the intersection of Fountain and Powers Boulevard.To reach the Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument, travel 35 miles west of Colorado Springs on Highway 24. At the town of Florissant, turn left onto Teller County #1, and travel 2 miles south to the Visitor Center.
