Leo Lesquereux - 1873
Leo C. Lesquereux (1806 -1889) pioneered the study of Florissant fossil plants.

Although he is not known to have visited Florissant valley, he received fossil plants from the Hayden Survey, the Princeton Scientific Expedition, and some fossils purchased by Samuel Scudder from Charlotte Hill.

Lesquereux was the first person to write a scientific paper on Florissant fossils in 1873.

In 1883, he published “Contribution to the fossil flora of the Western Territories”, which included his work from Florissant.

Lesquereux named a new species of rose, Rosa hilliae, after Charlotte Hill in 1883.
