Location It is south of the Tioga Rd, west of El Capitan, east of Tamarack campground. (CA)

Approximate acreage is 1705 ac.

Percent Contained 100%

Resources Committed No resources are committed to the fire.

Estimated Containment Date Season ending weather event.

Park Status
Snow is predicted over the next 3 to 4 days.

Updates on Fire
The Cascade Fire has been placed into an nactive status due to recent and continuing cold weather and the area receiving measurable precipitation (rain and snow). This will be the last Cascade Fire update.

Overview
The high elevation Cascade lightning caused fire has been slowly burning in remote wilderness for three months. It is burning in short needle red fir forest, creeping and smoldering through fingers of surface fuels and dead and down logs. The fire poses no threat to trails, park service buildings, infrastructure or roads, cultural or natural resources. See posted fire progression maps indicating ongoing fire growth and direction since the start of June 15, 2012.

Last 24-hour Activity
No fire activity has been observed. The current weather pattern may be the season ending event to declare the fire out.

Strategy
Fire management will continue to observe the fire until it is declared out.

Vegetation Affected Short needle closed canopy conifer (hemlock, fir)

Air / Smoke Issues
No smoke has been observed.

Benefits of the Burn
Returning fire to a fire dependent ecosystem. The fire area has no recorded fire history.

Protection objectives include protection to firefighter and visitor safety.
