The NPS Wildland Fire program is diverse and detailed. Photos reveal its stories and successes.
After the Fire
Fire is a natural process. The results can be both beneficial—like clearing debris from the forest floor, allowing nitrogen to fertilize the soil, and encouraging seeds to germinate; and detrimental when fuels accumulate resulting in a fiercely hot and fast fire, destroying animal habitats and vegetation, which help prevent soil erosion and flooding.
