Gary Luce, Prescribed Fire Specialist, formerly duty-stationed at Theodore Roosevelt National Park, was the recipient of a 2008 Midwest Region “Fire Works!” Award.  Bill Whitworth, Chief of Resource Management at Theodore Roosevelt National Park, accepted the award on Gary’s behalf from Midwest Region Fire & Aviation Management Officer Doug Alexander during the Regional Fire Management Meeting held in Omaha, Neb., June 10-11, 2008.

Gary was recognized for his successful re-introduction of fire back onto the landscape at Theodore Roosevelt National Park.  During the short time that Gary served as the Prescribed Fire Specialist at Theodore Roosevelt NP, he was able to accomplish several prescribed fires, in addition to other fuels projects, that had been planned, but not completed.

“The Midwest Region appreciates all of his support and energy he gave to the parks of North Dakota as the Prescribed Fire Specialist.,” said Alexander.  Adding, “Gary has thoroughly demonstrated a commitment which has helped to make this program a success.”
