Stones River National Battlefield
Park Trains Local Volunteer Fire Departments

In February 2006, Stones River National Battlefield offered S130/190 basic wildland firefighter training for volunteer fire departments in the local community. The class was taught by two instructors from Natchez Trace Parkway.

Thirty participants attended 40-hour of classes, held over two weekends: February 11-12 and February 25-27. The following volunteer fire departments (VFD) were present: Rutherford VFD, South East Rutherford VFD, Lascassas VFD, Eagleville VFD, Walter Hill VFD, Fosterville VFD, Salem Blackman VFD.

The training was held at the newly renovated Rutherford County Emergency Management Agency Building in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. Field day exercises were held at Stones River National Battlefield. The class participated in a simulation exercise for a planned prescribed project. The fireline they installed will be the holding line for a prescribed burn scheduled to take place this spring.

Local Volunteer Fire Departments receive basic wildland firefighter training.
