Earlier this year, Hubbell Trading Post National Historic Site presented a $5000.00 grant to their community partner, the Ganado Fire District. The Fire District is very active in the community and continually conducts a significant and widespread community education and fire prevention program throughout the year aimed at school age children and adults.
With this grant, the park supplemented the materials they use in their school program with additional items purchased through the Official Fire Prevention Week (FPW) Catalog from NFPA such as Classroom Kits which include videos, brochures, fire hats, neon pencils, stickers and escape grids for the younger students. Additional videos and fire prevention packages designed for higher grades were also purchased. The amount spent on these materials was $4201.74.
With the remaining funds, 100 smoke alarms were ordered and used by the Ganado Fire District to provide to community members without these necessary devices. The park received a gracious thank you letter from the Ganado Fire Chief, Gene Earl, and was also publicly acknowledged at a Ganado School District Board meeting. |
