Fort Davis Volunteer Fire Department Receives National Park Service Grant

Fort Davis Volunteer Fire Department (FDVFD) received a $5,000 grant through the United States Department of the Interior and Fort Davis National Historic Site (NHS) under the Rural Fire Assistance Program for the third consecutive year. The Volunteer Fire Department was able to partner with Fort Davis NHS because the VFD serves a community of less than 10,000 people adjacent to a federal site and has a cooperative agreement with Fort Davis NHS.

Personal protective clothing and equipment (PPE) was purchased for the current members along with additional items to establish a clothing/equipment cache for future use. The items include shirts, pants, helmets, gloves, goggles, and headlamps. Firefighters will now be better prepared and protected when fighting wildland fires in the 2,254 square miles of Jeff Davis County.
