Buffalo National River
Buffalo National River Recognized for Fire Management

In the first year of eligibility, Buffalo National River became the recipient of an annual Midwest Region Fire Management Award. Buffalo National River and the Arkansas Park Group were recognized for completing all fuel management projects, accomplishing over 6,000 acres of prescribed burning at Buffalo National River and Pea Ridge National Military Park. Buffalo National River also assisted Hot Springs National Park in fuel assessments and removal of ice storm damaged vegetation.

National Park Service personnel from the Arkansas Park Group were mobilized to fill nearly two hundred wildfire callouts. Fire personnel also assisted with 49 prescribed fires across the country for a total of 39,937 acres. Over 80,000 feet of fireline were prepared on twelve prescribed fire units and two mechanical fuel reduction projects at Hot Springs National Park and Pea Ridge National Military Park.

This trophy will be awarded each year to a Midwest Region National Park Service unit that achieves their fuel accomplishments.
