Dinosaur NM Donates Fire Trucks

The Artesia Fire Protection District was recently the recipient of two brush trucks donated by Dinosaur National Monument. Bruce Miller, Fire Management Officer, and Bruce Fields, his assistant, along with Steve Hirschi, Purchasing Agent for DNM and responsible for doing all the necessary paperwork, have worked hard to help the Fire Department secure better equipment. These two trucks, a 1988 Ford one ton and a 1992 Chevy one ton, both of which were completely set up as brush trucks to fight fires, have a collective value of well over $10,000. The District could not have purchased these vehicles out of its regular operating budget from property taxes of $30,000 per year. Fields and Miller presented the trucks to Bob Ormsbee, Fire Chief for the Artesia Fire Department.

A vehicle that was on loan to the District from the Sheriff's Office and two older trucks that were constantly in need of repairs will all be replaced with the new acquisitions. The two older trucks owned by the District were sold and the money from that sale was put into the Emergency Response budget to purchase medical supplies needed for the District's Quick Response Vehicle. The truck on loan from the Sheriff's department was returned to Moffat County Sheriff's Office.

Over the past year Miller and Fields have been very instrumental in obtaining other brush gear for the Artesia Fire Department. Through their efforts, more than $2500 worth of equipment has been donated by Dinosaur National Monument to the District, thus benefiting the local community. They have also made training opportunities available to the Dinosaur Volunteer Fire Fighters.

Fire Chief Ormsbee and his crew of volunteer fire fighters, as well as the Board of Directors for the Artesia Fire Protection District, greatly appreciate these gifts and all the work done by Miller, Fields and others employed at the Monument on behalf of the local community. Chief Ormsbee has enjoyed the great relationship that has been established with the Monument and is hopeful this will continue even though Bruce Miller has been transferred and will soon be leaving our area.
