| The
Fire Ecology Steering Committee (FESC) is established
to support field level resource and fire management
programs. The Committee provides guidance for the fire
ecology program of the National Park Service. This program
provides park-level, regional, and national management
of fire effects monitoring, fire ecology research, wildland
fire monitoring, liaison between resource management
and fire management, and development of ecological models
for fire and resource planning.
The FESC is a standing committee
that provides support and guidance for field level activities
involving ecological planning and monitoring of fire
effects. The FESC will also be responsible for communicating
these activities to the FIREPRO Steering Committee and
the Fire Management Leadership Board (FMLB). FESC activities
include development and review of fire ecology policy,
program needs and standards. The FESC will also facilitate
integration of fire monitoring with other resource and
fire management activities.
The FESC is made up of fire ecologists
at the national and regional offices and representatives
from park fire ecology programs, other NPS resource
management and fire management programs, and scientists
from the Biological Resources Division of the US Geologic
Survey (USGS).
