Data Management, Analysis, and Results

As a critical part of the program, new information collected and the results obtained by the Fire Ecology Program must be used to assist with future planning, to improve management activities, and to educate ourselves, our partners, and the public. We have a variety of formats for information dissemination and sharing including internal reports, external publications, newsletters, and websites.

Northeast/National Capital Region

The Northeast Region Fire Effects Monitoring Crew is based out of Shenandoah National Park in Luray, Virginia and provides services to parks in both the Northeast (NER) and National Capital (NCR) Regions. This young (began in 2000) and rapidly expanding program, covers a large geographic area with a variety of NPS units. Services include on-site fire behavior, first order fire effects, and fire weather observations during prescribed burns; pre- and post-burn data collection on monitoring plots; and training of park staff to collect and manage their own data.
