The abundant waters of the Skagit River Watershed have provided power for the city of Seattle. The three dams on the Skagit River - Gorge, Diablo and Ross - are inexorably linked to the cultural history of the Skagit Valley and the North Cascades and are rich with intertwined tales of visionaries, forces of nature and feats of engineering.
Join a behind-the-scenes look into the life of these monumental dams, the company town of Newhalem and the unique Skagit Hydroelectric Project run by Seattle City Light. This tour includes a walking tour of Newhalem, a picnic lunch in the village of Diablo, a tour of breathtaking scenic vistas, and a rare opportunity to tour the Gorge and Diablo Powerhouses!
These tours begin in Newhalem at 10 a.m. and conclude around 4 p.m. They will be offered every Saturday and Sunday from July 5 through September 14.
