Fresh Air Family and Scale Back Alabama
Great Backyard Bird Count
The National Park Service will partner with the Fresh Air Family and Scale Back Alabama for this activity. We will walk on the Path to Learning trail and the Little River Falls trail for a total of 1.5 miles. You will get to observe birds in their natural habitat, see the winter plants and a beautiful view of the river from the new bridge. Park Ranger Larry Beane will lead the easy hike through several habitats and teach techniques on how to identify birds.
Little River Canyon National Preserve has recorded 145 bird species. You can find our list at the Little River Canyon Center or go to this page on our website: http://www.nps.gov/liri/planyourvisit/upload/LIRI_bird_checklist.pdf

The Great Backyard Bird Count is a four-day global event from February 15-18. You may enter a photo competition and bird sighting lists by locations. This gives scientists data about bird populations located in specific areas. The website for the Great Backyard Birdcount is http://www.birdsource.org/gbbe/
