200th Commemoration of USS Constitution vs. HMS JavaThroughout the month of December, join the USS Constitution Museum in commemorating the 200th anniversary of Constitution's victory over HMS Java on December 29, 1812. Explore a special exhibition of artifacts and images from the battle, including the wooden leg used by a surviving Constitution crewmember. Experience the battle and its bloody aftermath with the video, "Honors of War," playing in the Figgie Theater. Throughout the month, you can toast "Old Ironsides'" victory, just as Bostonians did during the war; work with a team to "steer" the ship; get up close and personal with the surgeon's toolkit; and sew your own surgeon's journal to take home (schedule varies).
Throughout the month, you can help create a memorial wreath in honor of the British and American sailors who lost their lives during Constitution's battle with HMS Java on December 29, 1812. Inscribe the name of a sailor or a special note of thanks on the wreath.Location: USS Constitution Museum, Charlestown Navy Yard, Building 22, Charlestown, MA 02129, Boston National Historical Park Fee Information: Free Contact Name: USS Constitution Museum Contact Phone Number: (617) 426-1812
