Park Road Closed at Mile 3
The Park Road is closed at Mile 3 to vehicle traffic. Skiiers, hikers, and mushers are welcome to travel beyond that point. A new visitor parking lot, near the sled dog kennels at Mile 3, Park Headquarters, is available as a launching point for winter recreation.

The opening date of the road is sometime in March or April, 2012. Spring road opening is dictated largely by the weather. In recent years, the road has opened to Savage River, Mile 15, for vehicle traffic on:
