The "In a New Light" program at Northwest Passage, a residential mental health treatment facility in Frederic, Wisconsin, empowers troubled teens to engage in photographic journeys of self-expression. In 2011 and 2012, youth embarked on tours of Badlands, Isle Royale, Yellowstone, and Rocky Mountain National Parks, as well as Apostle Islands National Lakeshore. The St. Croix National Scenic Riverway continues to serve as the home base for the project. Hear powerful stories of healing, renewal, and redemption while viewing the stunning beauty of these places as captured by the "In a New Light" photographers. Discuss nature's role in healing, not just for troubled teens, but for all of us.
Ben Thwaits is the expressive arts coordinator for Northwest Passage and the founder of the "In a New Light" program.
