Bring your Pieces of History whether it be an antique, family heirloom, or collectible to Homestead National Monument of America's Education Center on Saturday, October 13, 2012 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Experts will be onsite to help determine your items history. This event is free and part of the monument's 4th annual Family History Weekend.
Artifacts are a great addition to any family's history. The items our ancestors treasured are often passed down through the generations. But the history of these objects can begin to fade, leaving unanswered questions. This is your opportunity to find out all about your family's treasure. Bring your items to professional appraiser Tom Bassest, historical expert Laureen Riedesel, and Teresa Bissegger, owner of Antiques Paradise to learn the story of your ancestor's pieces of history.
Then Homestead's Family History Weekend continues on Sunday, October 14, 2012 at 2 p.m. at the Monument's Education Center. Historian Blake Bell will give a special presentation about the importance of material history. Items, like photographs and books, can tell an amazing story about your family. After the presentation, Mr. Bell will open Homestead's Heritage Center Collection Room to the public. Get a behind the scenes glimpse at the material items homesteaders valued and see how these items are being preserved.
