Join us on October 27 for an evening ghost tour of the Allegheny Portage Railroads Staple Bend Tunnel. Hear about the darker side of life and death on the portage railroad and learn about the hazards workers and travelers of the 1830s and 1840s faced as they crossed the Allegheny Mountains. Historic figures associated with the portage railroad will share their stories of hardship and death in their own words.
Tours will be held at 6:00 PM, 7:00 PM, 8:00 PM and 9:00 PM. Space for each tour is limited to 48 people so reservations are required. The cost is $2 per person and National Parks passes are not valid. Reservation holders are asked to arrive at the Staple Bend Tunnel Parking area at least 15 minutes before the tour start time. The tour occurs rain or shine, so please dress appropriately for the weather. Visitors may bring personal flashlights.
