Patchogue, NY - Fire Island National Seashore is preparing for hazardous weather and surf conditions in anticipation of the approach of Hurricane Sandy. Many island-based facilities have already closed, and ferry service to National Park Service developments at Sailors Haven and Watch Hill has ended for the season. (Ferry service is still operating on a fall schedule from Bayshore, Sayville, and Patchogue to the Fire Island communities, but watch for closures.)

Most interpretive programs planned for Saturday, October 27, will be conducted as planned at the William Floyd Estate and at the Fire Island Lighthouse. For the Otis Pike Fire Island High Dune Wilderness, no additional backcountry camping permits will be issued after Friday, October 26. No additional closures are announced at this time.
