Hercules was the infamous chief chef of George Washington during his time at Mt. Vernon. Although ostentatious when it came to his show of sophistication and class, Hercules was even more impressive when it came to his culinary abilities. He was renowned for preparing culinary masterpieces. As a result, he was able to live a rather opulent life in spite of being confined in the bonds of slavery. In March of 1797, Hercules escaped to freedom shortly after the end of Washington’s last term as president. Come and discover what made Hercules one of the most fascinating members of Washington’s household.
