Chandler Lake Drum Removal

The National Park Service has prepared an environmental assessment (EA) in which the NPS is considering access to inholdings across Gates of the Arctic National Park between the community of Anaktuvuk Pass and Native lands around Chandler Lake. The purpose for the requested access is to transport two 8-wheeled Argo all-terrain vehicles into and out of the Chandler Lake area during summer and to use snowmachines with sleds to move equipment and personnel during spring to remove abandoned Department of Defense military debris from Native allotments and corporation lands. The requested access would traverse about 20 miles of non-wilderness park lands along Kollutarak Creek and southern parts of Chandler Lake. Anaktuvuk Pass residents are presently allowed to use Argos and snowmachines in that area for subsistence purposes only.
