  • “Geysir,” an Icelandic word meaning “to gush or rage,” is the origin of the word “geyser.” A geyser is defined as a hot spring that erupts periodically and forcefully because of pressure from underlying gases. Geysers must have plentiful water, a source of tremendous heat, and a unique plumbing system to exist.
